The Hamper Campaign

At the beginning of Advent we  started our Hamper Campaign.  The hamper Campaign had been a big feature in the life of the school in the past.  In recent years it had tailed off but in 2015 it returned with a new style of  getting contributions.

In the past there had been fund raising and large order was then given to a local supermarket.  This time we asked students to contribute specific things.  Things such as tinned food, fried pasta, rice, and packet soup.  During the last few days staff were invited to contribute treats to be added to the parcels.  Miss Pemble was most generous in this.

To give the students an incentive to contribute two pizza parties were offered.  Each item that was contributed received a raffle ticket.  The raffle was drawn in front of Mr De Silva, Mrs Richardson and Mr Burtonshaw.  Duro in sixth form was the winner.  Addy in Year Eight also won a pizza party for contributing the most items, 64 in total

On Friday 18 December we donated 34 hampers to the Upper Norwood circle of the Society of St Vincent de Paul.  Four boys, Mateusz, Jason, James and Elgin were chosen by their Heads of Year to help with the task

Along with two sixth formers, Mohammed and Elvin, the boys first finished off the hampers with some extra goodies and then loaded them onto the minibus before delivering them to a house a few streets away.

Mrs Villiers is our contact at the Society of St Vincent de Paul, she met us at her house where we unloaded the 34 hampers.  Mrs Villiers was impressed how smart the boys were and overwhelmed at our generosity.

We will be maintaining our relationship with the local SVP by having a Lenten appeal later in the year.
