Repent and believe in the Gospel

Fr Len Tatt is an old boy priest of St Joseph’s College.  He came to say Mass for Year 11 on Ash Wednesday. The Students liked it when Fr Len spoke of sitting in the chapel as a student himself.  He reminded us to use Lent to focus  to the crucifix and renew our personal relationship with Jesus.

During lunch time there was a Service of Readings and Distribution of Ashes.  Ethan and Tristram from Year Eight did the readings.  In the homily those present were asked to take the sign of witness that the ashes are, out into the college community.  Some choose to stay in the chapel, others go straight away.

When others see the ashes on the foreheads of those at the service, it reminds many of the community of the ashes being available.  Once enough people are gathered a second service takes place.

The words used as the ashes are imposed are ‘repent and believe in the Gospel’.
